About Fox Prairie Gun Range

Nestled away in a comfortable rural setting 9 tenths of a mile north of the City of Noblesville, Fox Prairie Gun Range (FPGR) is the only open to the public outside gun range in Hamilton County. All range time is by appointment only, providing you with exclusive usage of the range for yourself, family or group. It’s like having your own personal range.

FPGR also offers a variety of instructional classes for all firearms. Our training classes range from basic skills, to tactical applications.

Facility

  • Our range is an outside facility. There are no shelters. You will be exposed to the elements of weather.
  • Portable restrooms are available.
  • We provide shooting benches, target stands, and cardboard backers. You must provide your own targets and ammunition. We do not sell targets and ammunition.
  • Allowed targets include paper and approved steel targets.
  • The maximum yardage is 100.
  • You can shoot pistols, riflesn and shotguns. 50 BMG firearms are restricted.

Fox Prairie Gun Range History

Established in 1974, Fox Prairie Gun Range (FPGR) has supported the shooting sports, law enforcement community, and 2nd Amendment rights of gun enthusiasts and hunters in Hamilton County for over 45 years.

Timeline

1974

  • Backstop construction begins.
  • Range use by invitation only.
  • Still board competitions begin, open to the public.

1975 – 1976

  • Backstop construction continues, drainage for run-off water completed.
  • Range use by invitation only.
  • Competitions now include: still board, trap and small-bore rifle, all open to the public.
  • Bait & Tackle retail store opened.

1977 – 1980

  • Backstop construction continues.
  • Range use by invitation only.
  • Muzzle loading rifles added to competitions, open to the public.
  • FFL license acquired.
  • Bait & Tackle retail store begins selling firearms.

1981 – 1985

  • Backstop construction continues.
  • Range use by invitation only.
  • Handguns added to competitions, open to the public.
  • Bait & Tackle retail store begins offering gunsmith services.
  • Firearm training classes begin.

1986 – 1990

  • Backstop construction continues.
  • Construction of western barrier begins. 
  • Range use by invitation only.
  • Center fire rifles added to competitions, open to the public.
  • Firearm training classes expanded to include concealed carry.

1991 – 1996

  • Backstop construction continues internal concrete panels installed.
  • Construction of eastern barrier begins.
  • Old barn removed and additional drainage installed.
  • Parking lot installed. 
  • Range use by invitation only.
  •  Due to declining interest still board eliminated from competitions.
  • Bait & Tackle retail store closed due to competition from big box stores.
  • Firearm sales and gunsmith service relocated to KMC in Arcadia, IN.
  • Firearm training classes expanded to include AR-15 rifles.

1997 – 2004

  • Backstop construction continues.
  • Range use by invitation only on weekends.
  • Due to declining interest muzzle loading and small bore eliminated from competitions. 
  • Hamilton County 4-H Youth Shooting Sports utilize the range.
  • Boy Scouts of America utilize the range. 
  • Ballistic Technologies utilize the range as a testing facility.
  • Firearm training classes expanded to include self-defense.

2005 – 2018

  • Backstop construction continues.
  • Range opened to the public by reservation only.
  • Local Law Enforcement agencies utilize the range for training.
  • 911 Defense utilizes the range for training.
  • Bare Arms utilizes the range for training.
  • Fuse, LLC utilizes the range for training.
  • Ronin Security utilizes the range for training.
  • Competitions eliminated as range use increases.
  • Firearm training classes expanded to include tactical.
  • Range website activated.

2019

  • Celebrating our 45th year in business!
  • Updated logo released.
  • Website updated.
